Executive Medical Director

The Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia invites applications for the position of Executive Medical Director, UBC CPD. This is an administrative role with a one-year term appointment and a possibility of renewal, subject to a satisfactory performance review. The time commitment is 0.2-0.54 FTE, equivalent approx. to 1- 2.5 days per week. The incumbent must have sufficient protected time during the working week to fulfill the requirements of this role.

UBC Continuing Professional Development (UBC CPD), an academic Division of the Faculty of Medicine, offers hundreds of accredited professional development activities each year — large medical conferences, online courses and webinars, skills-based workshops and mentoring programs. UBC CPD is a leader in medical education with a strong reputation in British Columbia and beyond. UBC CPD is at the forefront of providing effective and innovative approaches to learning and has a unique platform to influence meaningful change through connection, education and research that support the lifelong learning of health professionals.

This position reports to the Associate Dean, Continuing Professional Development. This position will supervise UBC CPD Medical Directors representing health professionals in the Faculty of Medicine who collaborate with UBC CPD, such as Midwifery and the Island Medical Program. As necessary, the Executive Medical Director participates in leadership decisions, including operational issues and strategic planning for UBC CPD.

The successful candidate will hold an MD in good standing with a strong reputation and considerable experience in CPD. The successful candidate must hold a UBC faculty appointment or be eligible to hold a UBC faculty appointment. The successful candidate ideally maintains clinical work as a physician in practice, or has significant practice experience for the ability to represent the physician target audience. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the power of education, connection and reflection to support a thriving health-care system in pursuit of healthy communities, social justice and knowledge translation. The candidate will have experience in developing and providing educational programs and CPD activities for practicing physicians and experience designing learning and program objectives as well as evaluation tools to assess effectiveness of programs;  Ability to collaborate and communicate with key internal and external CPD stakeholders, including the BC College of Family Physicians of Canada, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC, Doctors of BC, BC Ministry of Health, College of Family Physicians of Canada, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and various other government and non-profit organizations; be familiar with BC academic and community-based physician communities and CPD initiatives through existing established networks and work experience, have strong leadership and communication skills.

The expected pay for this position is $30,000 – $80,000 per annum at 0.2-0.54 FTE.

This position is located within a health-care facility. Therefore, this position requires successful verification of full vaccination against Covid-19 provided prior to the start date, as required by the provincial health mandate.
